Located in the North Est side of Paris, barely 10 minutes away from the République Square, the Canal St Martin is quite a sight.
The canal and its famous moving bridge have been made famous with the film “Amélie” and also with the movie “Hotel du Nord” where we can see the still standing Hôtel du Nord, now a restaurant.
The Canal Saint-Martin area is quite picturesque, with all the Haussmannin buildings made of white stones, the quiet waters of the canal and its iron catwalks. During the past years, the area hasn’t stopped changing and has transformed into a hidden treasure where the fashion boutiques and some of he the best restaurants of Paris are mixed together.
Life in this neighborhood is moved by the canal St. Martin’s banks, which are quite prized at night and on the weekends, making it the ideal place for picnics and romantic moments. The canal has this particular shade of gray-green that reminds us of the plane trees’ leaf close by and of the sheen of the irony bridges.
