Place de la Bastille

Le Citizen Hotel is not only ideally situated close to some of the trendiest neighborhoods in Paris, but is also just a 10 minute walk away from one of the most important places in Paris’ history, the Place de la Bastille.

Place de la Bastille is the plaza that held the Bastille Prison until 1790 when it was destroyed during the French Revolution. While no physical manifestation of the prison remains today, the plaza continues to be a place of political importance, where important demonstrations are also held.

Place de la Bastille is both of historical and cultural importance; it is now the home of the Bastille Opera house, known for its modern architecture. An open-air market also takes place just north of the Place de la Bastille on Thursdays and Sundays, where you can find a seemingly unlimited assortment of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses.  The plaza is also ideally situated between the 4th, 11th and 12th arrondissements, and on lines 1,5, and 8 of the Paris metro.
