Jacob Sockness has been creating meticulous imagined maps since high school. These detailed topographical drawings rendered in pen, pencil and prismacolor present scaled city plans replete with waterways, roads, buildings and depth lines. He describes his blueprints as realistic diagrams of places that exist in a parallel civilization. The idealized towns plotted with carefully measured black lines on white paper combine the mathematical beauty of an architectural drawing, with the minimal, sophisticated presence of an abstract work of contemporary art.
